postgresql-server の標準インストールでは localhost 接続のみ。パスワードは必要ない。
ネットワーク経由で db 接続する場合は pg_hba.conf に接続許可を追加することと、パスワードを設定する。

参考例1 /var/lib/pgsql/data/postgresql.conf PosgreSQL がネットワーク接続するよう設定する。
